My father-in-law and I headed to his buddy's place a little after noon on Sunday. The pond we usually fish at his place is full of moss, so we have been fishing in his other pond so far this year. It hasn't had a lot of fishing pressure the last few years and apparently the fish were ready for some action. We fished for about four hours and boy did we slay 'em. I didn't get a total count, but we pulled in quite a few during the day. The f-i-l caught a couple of nice crappie and a couple of dinkier bass. We both caught a few nice bluegills. I caught one decent bass and a few dinky bass. The most exciting part, for me anyway, was finding a little spot of red ear. It has been years since I caught any and they were a fun fight on lighter tackle. It was my first time cleaning fish and I have to say that part of the day wasn't that much fun. Overall, it was the best day of fishing I have had in a long, long time. I think my f-i-l had a good day as well, because he called me out of the blue yesterday to say that we had a really good day on Sunday. An interesting observation. He has a bunch of willow trees lining his pond and is wanting them cut down. They cut down a couple of them on Saturday evening, one of which fell into the pond. I was thinking that it would be a good spot for this fish eventually, but to my surprise they had already took to the cover by the time we showed up on Sunday.
